Forecasting the Future in a Fast-changing World

Forecasting is an essential aspect of any company’s short and long term planning. At Spotify we forecast dozens of metrics, including company critical metrics such as number of active users. Forecasting helps senior leadership make decisions on resource allocation and investor relations provide an as accurate as possible guidance to the company’s investors. In this talk we will go through our high level approach to forecasting and how we solve for various issues that arise as well as how we try to keep up with a fast-paced world that changes so frequently.

Yorgos Askalidis is a Sr. Data Scientist doing User Forecasting for Spotify. Before that he worked in the product team at Spotify where he studied how users react to various types of notifications. He got his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Northwestern University.
